Ghana's manufacturing industry gets good support from the local government, which has enabled it to become home of the 40 fastest growing industrial productions in the world. Industry currently accounts for a quarter of the GDP but by 2021, it is expected to account for at least 30% of the GDP, and the main driver for the growth will be the automobile industry. Ghana's most important manufacturing industries include electronics manufacturing, car manufacturing, electric car manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, light manufacturing, food processing, cement, and small commercial ship building.
The automotive industry with over 1.5 million circulating vehicles is still totally under developed. Each year the country is importing over 100,000 pre-owned vehicles from USA, Middle East and other African countries while the new vehicle market stands below the 10,000 units.
